Take the Reins is an 8-week introductory program designed specifically for adults who want to learn about horses in a relaxed, supportive environment. Whether you've never been around horses before or you're returning after many years away, this program is the perfect place to start.
Max 10 attendees per session.
Take the Reins is run at Hudson Horsemanship North which is located just west of Crossfield/North of Airdrie. The address is 283040 Range Road 21, Rocky View County.
Weeks 1-4: Building the Foundation (Groundwork)
During the first half of the program, you'll stay on the ground while learning the essential skills needed to safely and confidently handle horses. Topics include, but are not limited to:
Weeks 5-8: Getting in the Saddle
Once you've built a solid foundation on the ground, you'll have the opportunity to apply those skills in the saddle while learning the basics of Western riding.
Not interested in riding? No problem! If you'd prefer to continue working from the ground, you're welcome to spend the second half of the program further developing your horsemanship skills instead of participating in the riding portion.
Please note that our lesson horses have a 200 lb rider weight limit. Participants over this limit are still very welcome to join the program and will participate in additional groundwork activities in place of riding.
